Welcome
to OAXSLUG
Hello welcome to my online portfolio
Printmaking is more than just a technical craft, I have found it is a tool for raising awareness, instigating change, and has the potential to foster an equitable world.

My name is
Ulises Uriel Peralta
I am a visual artist of Oaxacan heritage from Venice, California. My artistic journey began at Santa Monica College, where I earned an Associate Degree in Studio Art. In 2022, I transferred to UC Santa Cruz, where I honed my skills in printmaking, specializing in techniques such as Intaglio, Stone Lithography, Silk-Screen, Woodblock Reduction, and Anthotype Printmaking.

In the Fall of 2023, I was honored to receive an Irwin Project Grant, which enabled me to research and develop innovative methods in Archival Colorization and 3D-Anaglyph printmaking. This pivotal experience significantly shaped my artistic evolution.

Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I was named UCSC's 2024 Undergraduate Printmaker of the Year and awarded a month-long artist residency at UCSC’s Contemporary Print Media Research Center. During this residency, I created a suite of 11 intaglio/screenprint-hybrid works, culminating in my solo exhibition FACADES. This collection confronts histories of colonial shadows, suppression, and misinformation.

Looking ahead, I am committed to advancing my practice and developing new techniques while continuing to work in Santa Cruz California. My art is deeply informed by my Oaxacan heritage, drawing from ancient Mesoamerican traditions and contemporary socio-political issues. Through my work, I aim to challenge and resonate with viewers, foster meaningful dialogues, and provide a platform for marginalized groups and communities.
